Aztec Horoscope

Astrology and the study of human destiny were also practised by the Aztecs. In Mexico, they constitute the most numerous Indian people. According to researchers of pre-Columbian cultures, the Aztecs were already familiar with the principles of setting horoscopes at least half a century before the discovery of the Americas. The stellar forecasts of the Aztecs were distinguished by their precision compared to those arranged in Europe or the Far East at the time. According to the Aztec horoscope, forecasts referred to those born in a given year, in periods of ten days, as this was more or less the length of a given sign of that Zodiac. European forecasts, as we know, referred to births in a given month when the Sun was in one of the subsequent signs of the Zodiac. The Aztec calendar was quite complex, but more accurate than the one used today. The year was divided into 18 months of 20 days each and 5 days, the so-called extra days, considered to be fickle. Every 4 years the number of extra days was increased to 6. A year in the Aztec calendar had 365.25 days in a 4-year cycle. Years were counted within a 52-year cycle. Each year, each month, each week, each day and even each hour had a guardian from among the numerous Aztec deities. According to Aztec belief, the years were looked after by four gods, i.e. the God of the Air - Quetzalcoatl, the God of the Sun - Huitzilopochtli, the God of Rain - Tlaloc and the God of the Stars - Tezcatlipok.

The luckiest people were supposed to be those who were born in the year of the reign of the Air God. In this century, the years are: 1903, 1907, 1911, 1915, 1919, 1923, 1927, 1931, 1935, 1939, 1943, 1947, 1951, 1955, 1959, 1963, 1967, 1971, 1975, 1979, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999.

These people are the luckiest in both private and social life. They are characterised by a sharp mind and a thirst for knowledge. This can favour them in achieving high positions in the social or state hierarchy. The Air God is particularly favourable to those involved in science and teaching. The deity is kind to poets, artists and those who find their happiness in personal matters.

Born during the years of the Sun God's reign , i.e. in: 1900, 1904, 1908, 1912, 1916, 1920, 1924, 1928, 1932, 1936, 1940, 1944, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, etc., endows one with a strong personality, an independent freedom-loving nature, the ability to experience great passions, a tendency to sudden sympathies and antipathies and to go against established conventions.

The God of Rain, patronising the years: 1901, 1905, 1909, 1913, 1917, 1921, 1925, 1929, 1933, 1937, 1941, 1945, 1949, 1953, 1957, 1961, 1965, 1969, 1973, 1977, 1981, 1985, 1989, 1993, 1997, bestows on his subjects success in material matters and prosperity for life. They are served by their health, cheerful disposition and kindness towards their surroundings.

According to the predictions of the Aztec priests, the most difficult fate was to befall people born in the years of the Star God's reign, i.e. in this century in: 1902, 1906, 1910, 1914, 1918, 1922, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1938, 1942, 1946, 1950, 1954, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994 and 1998. In their lives, they face changing turns of fate. Their high sensitivity and nervousness cause them to experience strong spiritual crises. The wards of the Star God are often artists, people who have something to do with art. This is because they are endowed with a rich sense of observation and a vivid imagination, as well as a sensitivity to beauty in all its forms.
